Quien visita hoy d\u00eda La Habana puede elegir entre hospedarse en un hotel o en casas de alquiler, las cuales, con el auge reciente del turismo, precisan de condiciones igual de lujosas o mejores que algunos hoteles. <\/p>\n
Sin embargo, las hospeder\u00edas habaneras no siempre fueron de este modo.
\nFue la edici\u00f3n de 1840 del Directorio de Yones, tambi\u00e9n conocido como el Directorio de La Habana y Extramuros, la fuente que public\u00f3 los primeros anuncios de casas de hu\u00e9spedes en La Habana.<\/p>\n
Entre ellas estaba la casa de los se\u00f1ores Cuney y Fulton, en la calle Obrap\u00eda n\u00famero 119 y muy cerquita de esta, la residencia administrada por Do\u00f1a Clara F. Cutbush, quien un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s traslad\u00f3 su establecimiento para la casa n\u00famero 10 de la calle Obispo.<\/p>\n
Asimismo, otro ejemplo era el n\u00famero 72 de dicha calle, morada de Do\u00f1a Agustina Delgado. Por \u00faltimo y sin precisar direcciones, se presume en el directorio la existencia de las residencias de las se\u00f1oras Mar\u00eda Concepci\u00f3n, Henry y Madama Hervy que se ejerc\u00edan como due\u00f1as de iguales establecimientos.<\/p>\n
Si bien no aparecen referencias explicitas de muchos hoteles habaneros, las casas de hu\u00e9spedes tambi\u00e9n resultaban escasas para una ciudad que albergaba una poblaci\u00f3n de algo m\u00e1s de cien mil habitantes y recib\u00eda numerosos grupos de personas for\u00e1neas como del interior del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n
Rebasada la primera mitad del siglo, la calidad de los servicios continuaba siendo un punto d\u00e9bil para las hoteler\u00edas habaneras. Sin embargo, el crecimiento de visitantes contin\u00fao e impuso la adopci\u00f3n de nuevas ofertas y alojamientos, muchos de los cuales asumieron el gusto norteamericano.<\/p>\n
Los empresarios extranjeros dominaron el sector hotelero de la ciudad, esto resultaba un hecho incuestionable. Su influencia se hac\u00eda sentir, administraban las mejores casas de hu\u00e9spedes y las manten\u00edan llenas casi todo el a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n
Se empez\u00f3 a estilar la pr\u00e1ctica de arreglar los inmuebles. Los empresarios, convencidos de la importancia de ofertar un servicio hotelero de mayor calidad, no encontraron reparos en invertir en habitaciones decoradas y c\u00f3modas, tambi\u00e9n mejor\u00f3 la relaci\u00f3n cliente-hu\u00e9sped y el servicio gastron\u00f3mico.<\/p>\n
Asimismo, se empezaron a dar visibilidad a las hospeder\u00edas habaneras a trav\u00e9s de anuncios publicitarios en peri\u00f3dicos y revistas. As\u00ed, en 1851 el peri\u00f3dico Faro Industrial de La Habana anunciaba la reapertura de dos nuevos hoteles en la ciudad: el Hotel de la Noble Habana y el Hotel de la Uni\u00f3n.<\/p>\n
Y apenas un tiempo despu\u00e9s, apareci\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n en el mismo peri\u00f3dico, uno de los primeros anuncios en ingl\u00e9s sobre una casa de hu\u00e9spedes, propiedad de una norteamericana.<\/p>\n
En lo adelante no faltar\u00edan la promoci\u00f3n de casas de hu\u00e9spedes al estilo norteamericano.
